NEW YORK—Two young people stand in the lobby of Radio City Music Hall on Feb. 1 waiting to get in to Divine Performing Arts' Chinese New Year Splendor show. The gentleman wears an ivory suit and the lady looks graceful in a formal dress.

The gentleman, Yu Yang, is a university student who has just arrived in the U.S. from China. He had decided that the best New Year's present he could offer his girlfriend, Wang Hua, would be to take her to a Chinese New Year Splendor show.

Yu treated Wang to seats in the fifth row, some of the best seats in the house.

Wang Hua has been in the U.S. for many years and has seen many Broadway shows. She thinks that Western shows are more exaggerated and focus on individuals, while Eastern shows are more conservative and introverted.

Wang had never sat so close to the stage at any show. She said, "Sitting so close to the stage, I could see very clearly. The performance, the stage design, and the lighting are pretty good, better than I expected. My heart resonates with the show because the format and music are familiar. My favorite programs are 'Drummers of the Tang Court' and 'Nymphs of the Sea.' They are very impressive."

Yu loves dancing, "I like to watch more classical and pure dances. The dances in today's show are very good. Only Oriental women could have presented such dances—very graceful."

When asked about whether he likes this Chinese New Year present, Yu looked at Wang and said, "As long as she likes it!" Wang nodded in agreement with a smile, and said, "I am very satisfied."

The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit:
