NEW YORK—"I give it 10. I'd give it 13 if I could," said Rose Tortora, a retired middle school teacher from Queens, after taking in the Chinese New Year Splendor Sunday at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

An avid theater patron, Tortora says she regularly takes in seven of the top ten Broadway shows each season. The Chinese New Year Splendor, she believes, is at the top of the class.

"It was a spiritual experience," she said. "The music is incredible; it's inspirational."

"There is no episode that was better than another," she added. "The aesthetics, the mental imagery, the visual imagery, they all have their own message, their own beauty. The whole production is really integrated. You are transported by the music, the visuals of the production. There was so much talent. The visuals were excellent."

Tortora also remarked on the power of subtlety in the show.

"It transcends. It was brilliant, yet it was so modestly done. Some productions use noise, volume. This is different."

"Every angle, every aspect, it reflected the core producer's whole production. It was not about money, but to display the drama of people, of life."

Tortora had wanted to see the Divine Performing Arts' Holiday Wonders show at the Beacon Theatre in December but was unable to. She made sure not to miss out again, making an early trip to the box office at Radio City to purchase tickets for Divine Performing Arts' Chinese New Year Splendor show.

And she was glad she did. "It's a special day to see this one. It's a special treat."

The Chinese New Year Splendor continues in New York through Saturday, Feb. 9. For other shows in the Divine Performing Arts world tour, please visit: http://www.DivinePerformingArts.org/
