Art major Don Bergman is very pleased he took his family to the Chinese New Year Splendor at Radio City Music Hall on Sunday.
"Are you kidding me? It was fabulous."
"It was really. I mean, actually I had a chance to bring the kids this time, and the wife and mother in law, and it just met our expectations," he said.
He said it was the first time he had been to Radio City Music Hall.
"And just the visuals, the colours, the music, the energy — everything, it was phenomenal.
"And I'm an art major, so just to stand back and watch this, and take it all in, I mean, you really get a passion and a sympathy for what's happening in China, and the culture, and the art behind it, the music, it was absolutely gorgeous. We really enjoyed it," he said.
He said he had been to Broadway shows before but hadn't seen anything resembling the Splendor.
"We've been to Rent, we've been to Phantom of the Opera, we've been to the sort of the classical, but of this magnitude—absolutely not," he said.
He said the other shows could not compare with Splendor. "No, absolutely not. I would recommend this for any family to come see," he said.
Don's favorite performance was the Power of Awareness.
"They talked about communism in China, and how the show can't even air in China, and the fact that the ancient culture, the Chinese culture, has been thrown out.
"And, just that whole thing coming together, with the young people fighting back, it was just fabulous.
"I, actually, to be honest, probably could have teared up on that one. That was very good, it was awesome," he said.
When asked if he would come back next year he said: "Absolutely, no if, ands or buts."
